The Iris Program for Eating Disorder Treatment

Eating Disorders are the deadliest and most treatment resistant conditions in Psychiatry. However, our staff of highly trained providers at our eating disorder treatment facility are equipped to help you and your family  overcome such complex conditions. The experienced, multi-disciplinary team individualizes each treatment plan to address client’s specific needs on a physical, mental, and spiritual level. (see more)

Treatment begins with a comprehensive medical, nutritional and psychiatric assessment to best assess the needs of each individual client. Thereafter, women are assigned to one of our three eating disorder tracks, based upon their clinical needs: traditional outpatient therapy, intensive outpatient therapy (IOP) or our comprehensive eating disorder treatment (CED) program.

The level of care each woman receives is second to none, and includes, but is not limited to, twice weekly individual psychotherapy along with a multitude of traditional and experiential therapy groups (movement therapy, art therapy, psychodrama, acupuncture and meditation). Moreover, we pride ourselves on providing evidenced based treatment to our clients. Women have the opportunity to participate in our Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program (DBT) that blends Eastern philosophies with traditional western psychotherapy. Moreover, many women enter the program with an extensive history of trauma. As such, many of our therapists are trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), in order to facilitate quick and effective trauma resolution.

The nutrition therapy component of our program is headed by a registered and licensed dietitian who is highly experienced in eating disorder treatment. We adopt a Non-diet approach and teach our clients to develop a healthy relationship with food. Women not only receive weekly nutritional therapy, where our dietitian develops a personalized nutritional plan, but also participate in on site meal support, where they learn to develop healthy eating behaviors in a supportive environment.

Finally, we hold fast to the notion that mindful activity is imperative in order to achieve a sense of wellness in eating disorder treatment. After the client has received medical clearance, she begins her work with an on-site trainer, who assists her in reconnecting with her body and developing a healthy relationship with exercise in a safe and supportive environment.
